Holidays on the Plaza – Starting November 21

Holidays on the Plaza

Enjoy ice skating at with Holidays on the Plaza starting November 21.

Sponsored by Coca-Cola and located at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa, Holidays on the Plaza is the place to be for Ice skating in our area.

Admission is free to all guests, but skate pass tickets are required for skate rental and access to the ice rink. Purchase tickets at the plaza or call 311 for more information.

Pawwlidays of Tuscaloosa – November 22 through December 4

Pawwlidays is a fun family activity.

Pawwlidays are a fun family activity.

Located at 1302 The Townes, Pawwlidays are presented by the PAWW Pet Resort. Buy your tree, garland, wreaths, and poinsettias. Pick up treats for your dog and check out their clothes, toys, and ornaments as well.

Don’t miss the Pictures with Santa event for children and pets on Sunday, December 11 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Ghosts of Christmas Past Ghost Hunt – Saturday, December 3

Ghosts of Christmas Past at historic Drish house.

Take part in a ghost hunt at Tuscaloosa’s historic Drish house.

Engage with psychic Lesley Ann Hyde and the professional paranormal investigation team, Psychics, and TV Personalities. Join the Southern Ghost Girls as they investigate the historic Drish house located on 17th Street in Tuscaloosa. Take part in the ghost hunt and use real paranormal equipment just like those seen on television. The Drish house has long been rumored to be haunted. It is featured in Alabama author Kathryn Tucker Windham’s Thirteen Alabama Ghosts and Jeffery.

Hilaritas- The University of Alabama School of Music – Friday, December 2, 7:30 pm or Sunday, December 4 at 2:00 pm

University of Alabama's Hilaritas concert

Hilaritas is the University of Alabama’s annual concert of holiday music.

Held at Moody Concert Hall, this musical presentation has been entertaining Tuscaloosa audiences since 1969. The performance features jazz and pop arrangements of classical, standard, and contemporary songs, sacred and secular, from the season.

Julie and Suzanne’s One-Stop Christmas Shop – Sunday, December 4, 11:00 to 3:00 pm

Check out Julie and Suzanne’s One-Stop Christmas Shop on Sunday, December 4.

Find over twenty-five vendors at this Christmas market. This is the nineteenth year that this event will be held, and this year it will be located at the Cypress Inn Pavilion. In addition to clothing, there will be many handmade items, most made by local artisans.

Tuscaloosa Christmas Parade – Monday, December 5, 6:30 pm

One of Alabama’s largest Christmas Parades is coming back for its 46th year. The Annual West Alabama Christmas Parade is scheduled for Monday, December 5, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. with the theme of “A Retro Christmas”. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse at 5:15 p.m. as well.

Dickens Downtown – Tuesday, December 6

Annual Dickens Downtown

Dickens Downtown is a popular annual event in downtown Northport.

An annual Victorian holiday celebration known as Dickens Downtown takes place on the first Tuesday night in December in Downtown Northport.

Dickens is a community-supported gathering to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas. It includes scenes from “A Christmas Carol”, performed by Theatre Tuscaloosa, music from local choirs and the 5th Alabama Regimental Band, a real English Town Crier, Father Christmas, and Open Houses sponsored by area businesses and neighborhoods.

The Tuscaloosa Community Dancers’ Production of The Nutcracker – December 8 – 11

Don’t miss the annual performance of The Nutcracker at the historic and newly renovated Bama Theatre.

Since 1971, the Tuscaloosa Community Dancers have been bringing Tchaikovsky’s beloved Christmas classic The Nutcracker to Tuscaloosa. Experience the journey of Clara and her Nutcracker Prince as they battle the Mouse King in the Land of Sweets with the Sugar Plum Fairy. With its talented dancers, period costumes, and beautiful music, this performance is bound to put its audience in the holiday spirit.

Merry and Bright at the Bama Theatre – Saturday, December 17th, 2:00 pm or 7:00 pm

Dickens Downtown is a popular annual event in downtown Northport.

See Elf at 2:00 p.m. or Christmas Vacation at 7:00 p.m. This fundraiser is sponsored by the Junior League of Tuscaloosa and will take place in the newly renovated Bama Theatre at 600 Greensboro Avenue. The theatre will be decked out in holiday style and will provide the perfect historic venue for Tuscaloosa’s first, and hopefully annual, holiday film series. Concessions will be offered during both movies, with a specialty cocktail served at the 7:00 p.m. date night movie.
