Tuscaloosa Restaurants: New and Coming Soon

In our vibrant city on the Black Warrior River, we are fortunate to have many wonderful Tuscaloosa restaurants, cafes, and fast-food drive-ins. And several new places in our area have opened recently or will open soon. Ready to try some of these new eating establishments? Check out the places listed below.

Slim Chickens

For everything from strawberry milkshakes to chicken and waffles, try Slim Chickens. With two locations in Tuscaloosa—one on Skyland Boulevard and one on McFarland Boulevard—Slim Chickens is easy to find and offers tasty food, including buttermilk-battered chicken along with some unusual sides. Choose from fried okra, fried pickles, potato salad, and more on the tasty Slim Chickens menu.

Bistro 17

Bistro 17 (see below) offers healthy American comfort food with many gluten-free and vegetarian options. According to Tuscaloosa Thread, the menu at Bistro 17 serves up many delicious items, such as homemade meatballs, gluten-free fried pickles, and mac and cheese egg rolls. The Tuscaloosa restaurant’s menu also features dinner salads, a turkey shepherd’s pie, sandwiches, and many other delicious dishes.

For a taste of New Orleans without leaving home, try Mo’ Bay Beignets.

Mo’Bay Beignet Company

Since its opening in early July, Mo’Bay Beignet Company (see above) has been “making Tuscaloosa sweeter” one beignet at a time. In addition to their fluffy, delicious beignets, they offer cafe au lait and other coffees, espresso, frozen drinks, and more. Started in Mobile in 2020, Mo’Bay Beignets has expanded to include seven cafes and two food trucks. According to their website, they serve only perfectly cooked “hot and fresh authentic beignets” to every guest. They also offer unique toppings like buttercream syrup or cinnamon syrup.

TuscNY Pizza

This New York-style pepperoni pizza is one of many varieties found at TuscNY.

Recently opened at 229 McFarland Circle North, TuscNY Pizza, offers specialty pizzas and freshly made pasta dishes in a great atmosphere. TuscNY hopes to serve a diverse clientele, both permanent residents of Tuscaloosa as well as students.

This great hangout spot features a 20-foot bar with great food, specialty cocktails, tables, and booths with a view of the open kitchen, as well as a convenient drive-thru window for pickup orders. You can choose absolutely delicious Detroit and Sicilian-style pizzas, or you can opt for New York-style pizzas. You’ll enjoy all-natural, made-from-scratch ingredients, including its house-made tomato sauce, on the TuscNY menu.

The Venue

Plans for The Venue include family-friendly dining and entertainment in north Tuscaloosa. Located near Sokol Park and TreeHouse Nursery, The Venue will include five counter-service restaurants, a pub, and a hand-dipped ice cream shop. There will be live entertainment on the stage and lots of family activities. Opening in the fall of 2022, The Venue promises to be “Tuscaloosa’s newest gathering place for families and friends with great restaurants, a relaxed atmosphere, and weekly events.”

Opening in the fall, The Venue wants to be your new favorite Tuscaloosa hangout.
